Message from Mayor Gierisch

In our growing community, keeping up with infrastructure is a top priority. In the 2023 Capital Improvements budget, we worked to allocate funds toward repairs and updates on Roanoke streets. Repairs have begun on Denton and Houston Streets. This capital improvement project consists of a new waterline, storm sewer, and new concrete street with sidewalks. The project will conclude within 210 days (no later than December 18, 2023). We are looking forward to these improvements and the benefit it will add to our great City.

Work will soon begin on several improvements and updates to City of Roanoke Parks. Included in those updates are: an outdoor fitness court (which will be located near the Roanoke soccer complex), a shade cover over the Fair Play Park playground equipment, new playground equipment at Country Acres Park, and turf installation on the Fair Play Park soccer field. We will continue to update you on these projects as they progress and hope to seeing you enjoying one of Roanoke's 9 beautiful parks.

Message from City Manager Cody Petree

The City of Roanoke continues to grow in incredible ways! As we grow, we find innovative ways to serve the community. Our staff has welcomed several new additions to the team including: Andrew Davis, IT Specialist, and David Allen, GIS Program Administrator. In addition, we celebrated Ethan Powell who was promoted from part-time to full-time Firefighter/EMT. We are also proud to welcome many returning, and several new, part-time summer staff who will assist with our summer parks and recreation programs and activities. The City of Roanoke is a great place to work! If you are interested in joining the team, click here to learn more and apply.

During the May 9th City Council meeting, the Council unanimously approved new operating hours for Roanoke’s City Hall. The Human Resources team made operating hours recommendations to Council after several months of research. That research included tallying the results of an internal employee survey, and compiling the information collected from other municipalities with similar schedules. The goal is to continue to offer Monday-Friday customer service at City Hall while also allowing City Hall staff to try an alternative work schedule. The new operating hours began June 7th and are 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday, and Friday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (noon). The City of Roanoke continues to have talented and dedicated employees. Our staff offers outstanding customer service to our residents and businesses. We look forward to continuing to serve our community well, while also serving our staff well, by trying a new alternative work schedule.

Roanoke is growing! There are several construction projects underway as our business community grows. We update this page with current building projects and proposals.

The Roanoke Police Department enjoyed spending time with residents during their Coffee with a Cop event. Thank you to all who attended. We enjoyed getting to know you and chatting over a cup of coffee.

Employee Spotlight: Kim Brown

Each month we wish to introduce you to one of our incredible staff members.

This month, our spotlight is on Kim Brown, Roanoke Fire Department Administrative Assistant. Kim has worked with the Roanoke Fire Department for 23 years! When asked what she loves most about her job, Kim responded, "The fire family here...all the guys (and Smokey). It is the best place to work in the best little town!"

Outside of work, Kim loves to spend time with her family, spoil her dogs, and explore mid-century modern architecture. A fun fact about Kim: she collects vintage Pyrex kitchenware.

Please join us in thanking Kim for her incredible hard work and dedication, and swing into the the Fire Department to say hello.

Roanoke Parks & Recreation Scholarship Recipients

The City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation Department accepts annual applications for a one time college scholarship. The annual application is open to Roanoke resident high school seniors who are college, trade/technical, or business school bound. This year, three Byron Nelson students were awarded $1,000 scholarships. We celebrate these three students for their outstanding scholastic excellence and can't wait to encourage them as they begin the next phase of their education.
