HB 1631 banning red light cameras was passed by the Texas Legislature, signed by the Governor on June 1, and is now law. Options for cities to continue with their red light camera programs for the duration of their service contracts varies among cities, and depends on the language in their respective contracts. Similar to many cities, Roanoke’s service contract with Red Flex Traffic Systems contains language that the red light camera service terminates immediately in the event of adverse State legislation (banning cameras). As a result, our red light cameras have been deactivated and the City has ceased review of any outstanding citations. Refunds will not be given for any tickets paid prior to the effective date of the state legislation (June 1, 2019).
