Home Rule


Roanoke is a home rule city. The mayor is elected at-large and is assisted by 6 council members. The 6 elected council members represent 3 wards with 2 members per ward.

City Council


The City Council is the legislative and governing body of the city. In accordance with the City Charter, the council enacts legislation, adopts the annual operating budget, and is responsible for setting policy. The city manager is appointed to oversee the functioning and operation of city departments, development, and city planning, and reports to the City Council.

The City Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. If you wish to speak on an issue, please complete the form for public input at City Council meeting.
