ROANOKE, TEXAS (JUNE 2, 2017)- The City of Roanoke is pleased to announce that the 2nd annual Roanoke Roundup, held on May 13, 2017, raised just over $31,000, which will be split between the Guns & Hoses Foundation of North Texas and Speedway Children’s Charities-Texas.

The Guns & Hoses Foundation of North Texas is an organization dedicated to assisting the families of fallen first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The Speedway Children’s Charities at Texas Motor Speedway distributes funds to non-profit organizations in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties to support children in need.

The Roanoke Roundup is an all day steak cook-off sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association. Competitors come from all around Texas and surrounding states to compete in preparing the best steak to win cash prizes.

A number of local police and fire departments also competed in the steak cook-off, competing not only for first place in the overall competition, but also the best steak out of the police and fire department teams to take home the Hero’s Cup Trophy. This year’s contenders included the Roanoke Fire Department, Roanoke Police Department, Trophy Club Police Department, Keller Fire Department, Watauga Police Department and Constable Precinct 4-Denton County. Watauga Police Department was the official winner out of the police and fire departments, taking home the Hero’s Cup.

Once the competition was complete, 10 teams stayed to cook steaks for the public. Individuals were able to purchase dinner tickets to receive a steak dinner, including sides and a dessert. The evening was also filled with fun activities for the kids, shopping at vendor booths, a classic car show and live music by Midnight River Choir, Jake Worthington and Katye Hamlin.

100% of proceeds from ticket sales, cook team and vendor registration fees were donated back to the foundations. Half of each sponsorship was also donated back.
